Long-distance move from Detroit, MI to San Francisco, CA

Horrible bait-and-switch company; stay far away!

I had a truly awful experience with Van Lines Pros. They are a bait-and-switch company with unbelievably terrible customer service. They are so bad that even the moving company I used ended up cutting ties with them…

Here are some more details:

1. My move was from Detroit, MI to San Fransisco, CA through a company called Cross Country Moving Group, who brokered to Van Lines Pros. My belongings were picked up and put into storage in Ohio (out of all places?) for 26 days while I looked for apartments in San Fransisco. Once I found an apartment, it took another 44 DAYS for my stuff to reach my doorstep. 44 DAYS!! It turns out Van Lines Pros did not have the resources to move my stuff, so they brokered to another moving company without informing me.

2. I was quoted around $1800 for my move. By the time my stuff was packed in the truck, the price jumped to over $3800!! More than double the estimate for a small studio apartment! Not to mention $3 per ft^2 for bubble wrap? Are you kidding me?!

3. They did a horrendous job physically packing my stuff in the van. I took photos and measurements afterwards and determined that there was ~95 ft^3 of empty space in the moving van. In other words, they charged me over $500 for EMPTY SPACE.

4. They moved my stuff dangerously fast since one of the movers was late to run a PERSONAL errand. In particular, when moving my 55 in flatscreen TV, they stabbed the box with a furniture leg, narrowly missing the $1600 TV. They even allowed the entire TV box to fall over, which was miraculously caught by an observing bystander.

5. They lost my living room rug and a box of expensive kitchen goods. They also broke some bowls and plates and scratched up all of my furniture.

6. The worst part of the move was easily the customer service. Apparently, there is ONE individual who handles ALL of Van Lines Pros’ customers. I remember calling upwards of 10 times a day for a WEEK before I managed to get through to her. Whenever I did manage to get a hold of her, she was completely useless.

Do yourselves a favor and hire ANYBODY else for your move!

Long-distance move from Sioux Falls, SD to Daytona Beach, FL

Most Unprofessional Company.

This company does not even deserve 1 star! They accepted the job from the broker we hired to move our household from SD to FL. We had a 3 day window and at the end of the 2nd day they notified us that they would be there at 6pm on the 3rd day. Two men show up that were hired off of Craigslist to help load the truck, then the driver shows up just to inform us that his truck is full and that he will have to go pick up another one. He returns with a tiny 16 ft truck to load our stuff that we contracted to fill a 26 ft truck. The 2 Craigslist workers feel like the company is shady so they ask to be paid and walk off the job. Now all we have left is the driver..so my husband is now helping him do the move that we are paying thousands of dollars to have done. I am on the phone with the company telling her that we need a bigger truck and some help and she assured me that there was another truck on the way and 3 more movers to help. No one showed up!! Finally at midnight we find out that the driver is supposed to go take this truck to storage and come back with the first truck he came in and try to move things around to fit the rest of our items in it. At 1am she informed me that there is nothing she can do, we need to wait until the next morning and then the driver can empty the truck and come back for the rest! There was no inventory done of my items, yet she wanted me to sign documents saying my stuff was picked up..at this point I don't feel comfortable with them having possession of my stuff, so we moved our items into our own storage unit and told them we are no longer using them. The owner then calls and threatens me saying that she is going to call the police and report me for fraud, saying that I never intended to pay, and claiming she has my stuff when I know it is safely tucked away in storage. Do NOT ever let this company have any involvement in your move!!
